No place can compare to Rome. And no time is better than spring in the Eternal City, where we’ll have exclusive access to some of the most private and elusive places in the Italian capital. From the great villas built in and around the city, to the most secret gardens, the best of Rome will unfold for us.

There will be exclusive, private visits to the Sistine Chapel and the Villa Medici, and meals at the Palazzo Patrizi and the American Academy in Rome. Not to mention special visits to the Papal Palace of Castel Gandolfo, Parco dei Mostri, and a secret, private villa that has been in one noble family for over 400 years.

We’ll be based at the luxurious Hotel de la Ville, noted for its confluence of classical Roman design and contemporary cool. Housed in an 18th century palazzo at the top of the Spanish Steps, the hotel has breathtaking views of the city and features three restaurants, an enchanting courtyard, and a Sicilian-inspired spa.

A New England Sojourn

Tour Leader: Robert Charles Anderson

June 15-19, 2022Massachusetts

The Mayflower, having crossed the Atlantic in just over two months, made landfall on Cape Cod in November 1620 and came to anchor in what is now Provincetown Harbor. The ship and most of its passengers remained at that location for more than a month while some of the immigrants explored the Cape in search of a place to settle. Join Robert Charles Anderson and other Mayflower experts as we explore New England and gain an understanding of the challenges facing the Pilgrims in the earliest months and years of settlement. Our tour begins in Boston at New England Historic Genealogical Society before heading to the Mirbeau Inn in Plymouth, our base for five days. We will immerse ourselves in Pilgrim history with visits to Plimoth Plantation, the Pilgrim Hall Museum, the Alden Family Sites, Old Burying Ground, Jabez Howland House, Provincetown Museum, and more. Throughout the trip, we’ll enjoy guidance from talented academic leadership, behind-the-scenes visits, special presentations, and traditional New England fare.

Pilgrims in England: The Southeast Contingent

Tour Leader: Robert Charles Anderson

October 18-24, 2022England

Join Robert Charles Anderson, author and esteemed scholar of the Great Migration and Heritage Tours for the third tour commemorating the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower. Our journey in the footsteps of Mayflower passengers continues in Canterbury and Winchester, where we will explore the towns and cities that nurtured some of our nation’s most notable Pilgrims. We begin in the historic cathedral city of Canterbury and UNESCO World Heritage Site where we discover insights into the life of James Chilton, resident of Canterbury prior to his move to Sandwich and ultimately Leiden. Walk in the footsteps of Chilton and his contemporaries, like Moses Fletcher on guided tours in Sandwich.

We then depart on the second leg of our journey for Winchester, known for the medieval Winchester Cathedral. Along the way, visit Dorking, the home of William Mullins and Peter Brown. Explore the historic market town and delight in its quirky boutiques, vibrant art scene, and proximity to nature. Examine the life of Stephen Hopkins in Winchester and Upper Clatford (his birthplace) and Hursley (where he lived as a young adult). Our program concludes with a visit to Southampton, where we reimagine the arrival of the Speedwell from Delfshaven and the Mayflower from London before the transatlantic journey that would change the world.

Many private experiences, in-depth discussions with historians, and delicious, traditional meals await us. We hope you will join us next year in Canterbury and Winchester.

An English Country Christmas

Tour Leader: Curt DiCamillo

November 29-December 4, 2022 England

When winter beckons and Christmas is just around the corner, what could be better than spending time in England, the country that almost invented Christmas?! And no place is more redolent of the Yuletide season than Shropshire, where gingerbread was invented!

We’ll be staying at Weston Park, one of England’s grandest country houses, where we will be the only occupants. There will be crackling log fires in the library, invigorating warm beverages, holiday stories, art that tells the Christmas story in the brush strokes of the Old Masters, laughter amid crisp, cold walks in the ancient deer park, and Christmas gifts for everyone!

This seasonal tour will feature visits to ancient English homes, scenes and settings that inspired Charles Dickens, and even a church where young passengers on the Mayflower worshipped before their voyage four hundred years ago. There will also be the chance to sample seasonal fare and local specialties, including gingerbread, a Christmas wine tasting at a 200-year-old wine merchant, a visit from carolers, a Christmas fair, and more!
